What can be said about our show on Sunday just gone.
Great weather for the best part and a brilliant atmosphere throughout the day, it must have been the best show we have had. plenty of things to see and do and plenty to spend money on.
There are too many good quality cars to mention, though one of the best must have been a Morris Meteor that arrived on a trailer, it recieved many an admiring glance.
The day seemed to end too soon once the rain came, but that's one thing you can never beat.
Congratulations to Mike & Kath Breen on being awarded both the Tal Thomas Cup & Spirit of Motoring Shield it well deserved
Many thanks to all club members who helped on the day and who work for the club throughout the year.
Here's looking forward to 2009
Sunday 11th May 2008
Just a few lines about the above show.
Excellent weather to herald a great show, plenty to see and even more things to spend money on.
The amount of quality metal on show was impressive, my pick of the cars just happened to be the winner of Best Car in Show for non SWCCC member that was a pale blue & cream Ford Zodiac a true concours winner if ever there was.
Another noteable was a pink Cadillac that had already had £23k spent on it sporting a new engine that only returns 12 to the gallon !!!!!!
The only down side of the day was the fact we had to come home, never mind there's always next year
Auction:
Over the past two weekends there have been two auctions that have attracted the interest of Classic Car fans around the counties.
The first of these was held at Tenby Ford on Saturday 12th April.
8 Classics came under the hammer all in need of restoration one in particular requiring extensive repair, that being a early 60's Vanden Plas 1300 realising just £80 the price reflecting the condition.
The biggest suprise of the day was the £780 knocked out for a 'C' plated Mk1 Ford Cortina surely a bargain, the car was complete and to be only requiring moderate resoration.
Two other noteable vehicles that realised respectable prices were a Mk1 Ford Escort coming in at £3,080.00 after some fierce bidding, a complete car again that did'nt look as if much was needed to get it on the road again. The other noteable was a MK2 Consul that looked majestic even in it's forloan state, it realised £2,000.00 a fair price for such a lot of car.
The prices for the other lots were as follows
1972 Hillman Hunter £100.00
1972 Ford Cortina 2000GXL Mk3 £300.00
1978 Ford Escort 1300 Mk2 £1,980.00
???? MGB Convertible £3,250.00
Second of the auctions was held at the Pensarn Auction Centre of Peter Jarvis on 19th April, although held in doors the temperature inside was just as cold as that of outside with sales of the Classic car entry being hard to come by.
First lot in this section was 217A a 1957 Sunbeam Talbot 90 Mk3 4dr saloon selling for £1200 a local car and one of the last made of this popular saloon.A very good looking 1969 Triumph Herald 1200 2dr saw a respectable £1600 bringing the gavel down.
Two suprising non sellers were 74 MGB GT Sports coupe when the bidding stopped at £2000 and a 81 Opel Monza coupe that drew bids of £1000, is the credit crunch already affecting us.
Another two non-sellers were a highly maintained 90 Jaguar Sovereign fitted with the 4litre lump, bidding here only reaching £600.The second Jaguar a 1989 XJS V12 HE managed to reach £2600 before bidding stopped, fitted with a TWR body kit and with only 72,000 on the clock this was a suprising result.
A Few restoration projects found homes, with a 1961 Ford Popular 100E being the highlight fetching £400, a Morris Minor £250 MG roadster £50 and a down at heel Vanden Plas 1100 £20.
The highlight of the auction was the £8100 paid for a 1971 Morris Minor 1000 Traveller Custom, fitted with a Rover 1400cc unit, Mot'd until 2009 and with receipts for £20,000+ what a car!!!
